First Repaint Colour Case
Victoria Park Residences, at Kelvin Grove
A building’s first repaint can raise interesting colour questions.
Do you repaint in the same colours? What substrate problems have surfaced? How might colour choices help fix those problems?
When Victoria Park Road was being prepared for its first repaint, independent colour consultant Rachael Langford from Colour Cru came on board to help answer those questions.
The original colour scheme still had a contemporary edge to match the architecture, but there were issues.
Architectural cladding was failing and needed to be removed, exposing areas which would need to be repainted.
The original cladding added visual interest to the design of the property. Removing it would make the building look less exciting, unless replaced with colour which maintained the original look of the building.
Colour Cru provided two colour scheme options for stakeholders to choose from, one more colourful, the other more neutral, and presented with colour schedule and digital overlays to visualise the new colour schemes.
Armed with info and images, the owners were able to make a quick decision, choosing colours which honoured the original design intent of the architecture.
Paint colours were used to maintain visual interest, after the failing architectural cladding was removed.
